Enter Shikari have taken the aggression of a young generation and put a positive political spin on it in their 3 rd and latest studio album ‘A Flash Flood Of Colour’ Post-hardcore and Electronica rockers Enter Shikari have grown from strength to strength since the release of their debut album ‘Take To The Skies’ in 2007. Officially known as the most incendiary live band in Britain they have a knack for writing songs that can get a crowd pumped up and ready to rave. In ‘A Flash Flood Of Colour’ however Enter Shikari have taken their genre mashing racket and embarked on a political journey that seeks to educate on the world’s current economic crisis. The album kicks off with intro track ‘ System’, over a haunting riff and an up tempo beat, front man Rou Reynolds lyrics compare the worlds current position to a house hanging on the edge of cliff (while everyone ignores the crashing waves below). When we get to ‘ Sssnakepit’ all hell breaks loose as waves of guiar-dubstep like synths rain down over a drum and bass beat, definitely a track that highlights Enter Shikari’s unique creativity. ‘ Arguing With Thermometers’ is another song that can be put in the same category as Sssnakepit as ‘classic Shikari’ and it has already been picked as the mainstream single to promote the album. Through the next few tracks ‘ Search Party’ and ‘ Stalemate’ we are transported to a much more calmer and smoother ride on this roller coaster of an album, but not for too long as the passionate outbursts in ‘ Gandhi Mate, Gandhi’ remind us why they are best known as a post-hardcore rock band. Near the end of ‘A Flash Flood Of Colour’ we are left ‘ Constellations’ a powerful and emotional ballad that gives Rou a platform to deliver inspiration lyrics such as “As the train bound for disaster, chokes up to the station, I don’t board it cause I decide it’s the wrong destination” and “We need to use our own two feet to walk these tracks”. To finish off we have the original single that was used to promote the album ‘ Quelle Surprise’ as dynamic as it is catchy this remains the winning track on the album that shows how Rou Reynolds and Co. Have possibly managed to create a winning formula in their clashing of genres. Overall this album shows a growing maturity in Enter Shikari’s approach to music, although very political driven the songs offer solutions just as much as despair and although it’s a rough ride at times it ends on a high note that places Enter Shikari at the forefront of modern UK music.
